Horn Lake High School Reviews

It is a good school with admin and with the majority of teachers who care. You have to motivate yourself to do your work and make good grades.

my daughter attends horn lake high and i think it is a great school

Horn Lake High is not that great of a school. There is a lot of drama at this school and many of the other students don't care about their grades. I go to classes all the time where many people just sleep. There is potential for this school to be so much better, but it isn't. That's the harsh reality. They enforce the dress code more than they care about the education. That's how bad it is.

Horn Lake High did not prepare its students for college. As a former honors student going to the University of Memphis now, I can say that the English and Science is very weak and needs improvement. I had to learn everything the hard way ( Ex: writing paper five times or more to get an A). Avoid if possible!

Hey my name is crystal. I just graudted from there last year and I think that it is a very good school and the teachers are great and the principals are too.

Horn Lake is a very good school. People get down on it because it isn't as new as some of the others in Desoto County. New doesn't always equal quality. I believe the administration is very good and cares about the kids. The majority of the teachers are very good and very competent. I have no problem sending my child there and I look forward to the new school coming up in the next year.

I have been attending this school for the past two years, and compared to other schools this one is one of the best. There are alot of courses to choose from and most of the teachers are pretty good at what they do. Although, there are a few teachers that do have trouble explaining things. Even if they don't explain it well, if you try to understand it you will. Most of the teachers even offer after school tutoring! Another thing, the bathrooms may be old and dirty, but we are getting a new school in 2yrs. so what is the point in building new ones. The ones we have are better than that of other schools I know. Overall, I think it's one of the best schools around here.

Never Judge a book by its cover. I couldnt care less if the school was a shack as long as my child is learning and WANTS to stay in school because the teachers are for the students. The teachers is what makes a great school. The teachers must want to teach and show the children that they are there for them. I dont think this is going on at all. These teachers seem to be burned out and just dont care about the students. If they see that a student isnt doing well..they need to pull that student aside and find out how they can help. Thats all about being a teacher. There are too many teachers at Horn Lake High school that do not take their jobs seriously and just want to teach what they have been for the past 20 years and throw a grade. Whats up with this?

I believe Horn Lake High is an excellent school I've been a student there for two years now and I feel safe I go to School there not too many people can say that now days. the teachers are exceptional and so is the office faculty. I take great pride in being a student at horn lake and I highly recommend it to any parent.

This school is a joke! The students learn nothing. I think the school fails health code also. You can see mold in their 'study hall.' I think these kids need a new school, and better teachers!

i'm a senior at hlhs this year (04-05) and the school isnt that horribly bad...the point i dont quiet understand is the fact that they're making all of these upgrades and they're going to build us a new one in 2 years. the bathrooms are horrible and i dont een attempt to enter them. we are one of the only level 5 schools in the state, or county. the teachers can be annoying, but for the most part they dont need to make coaches principals for one thing, and they also dont need to make the coahces teach normal classes...most of them give out grades when that happens. all i can say for anybody coming into the school....dont take study halls, they're the worst thing you can do.

I am a freshman at HLHS. Now, the bathrooms ARE dirty and Old. The doors don't lock, but they are cleaned and stocked, more than can be said of some schools. We got new lockers this year(04-05) so no more problems with lockers. Most of the teachers aren't too bad, some of the older ones don't explain as well, but they were taught differently, and it's not impossible to pass. We always have two cops on campus, but we've never had anything at school worse than a fight. They take things seriously, and their WERE some little 'gangs' but they were weeded out. The cliques aren't as strict as some I've seen, but their ARE the normal social circles. Sports/Clubs/activities: Football, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Tennis, Golf, volleyball, track, cheer, dance, theatre, Octagon(community service), TSA(technology), FCS(christians), Beta, spanish/french club, HonorSociety.

I attend Horn Lake High School and highly recomend it. It has a wonderful atmosphere with outstanding teachers and staff that care for the students. Our Technology feilds are the most advanced in the county. We recieved superior rating by the standards of the Board of Education (the highest rating) and we scored highest in the county on 3 out of 4 major test areas. Our sports program is excellent and has many sports and extracurricular activities to choose from. There is always security on duty even though they've never been too necassary; we appreciate them still. We are also in the process of drawing plans to build a brand new facility. If there is any room for improvement in Horn Lake's school system we are looking for it and improving upon it.

This is my daughter's first year at this school .The female restrooms are nasty and smell. She has a locker that is falling apart. When she puts her books in it, they fall to the locker below. Asked for another one but was told no.The bottom was put back in place but fell again when a thin folder was put on it.Other than this, it is a good school. Some of the older teachers need to be weeded out for lack of explaining the work when a student has a problem understanding something.Students are not answered to or they are told too bad.

The previous review seems to be mistaking the old High School, which was built back in the 1940s or earlier. Horn Lake High School on Nail Road was built in the mid 70s and still looks like the day it was first built. The halls are clean as are the classrooms. The grass stays cut. This is still an exceptionally well kept school.

Horn Lake High School is run down! Its a very old school that is not taken care of. They have no custodial staff and the rooms, hall and bathrooms are old and dirty.
