Snowden School Reviews

I think that this is the number one middle school in Memphis Tennessee. This school has great teachers and principles who dicipline the students very well. There are alot of electives that your child can choose from, like band which the instructor is Mr. James Robertson who actually is one of the drummers for Issac Hayes. Choir the director is Mrs. Wendy Baker who has been teaching choir for 18 years now. Art the teacher is Mrs. Glover she has been teaching for 25 years at Snowden. Drama,Spanish the teacher is Mrs. Diacey. The schools most lovely principal is Mrs. Catherine Battle. I hope I encouraged you into letting your child come to this school. If you choose to do so you have made an excellent choice. There are two ways your child can come to this school on a transfer or in an optional program. Good Luck!

Great teachers. Challenging curriculum. Great neighborhood school focused on teaching all the children.

Excellent! It is a great atmosphere for us to learn in and it is also a nonviolent one. The sports, foreign language, and arts programs are good as well.

I live in the county, but pay tution and drive in 20 miles a day for my children to attend Snowden, a city school. The principal is exceptional and the PTA is fabulous. They do an icredible job keeping the elementary and middle school seperate. The relationship of the school to the surrounding neighborhood, including Rhodes College, provides a unique environment. I cannot reccomend this school enough.

We live in the county and pay send our children to Snowden. We have one son and one daughter in Snowden's optional program. The program, teachers and administration are all fantastic. Communication with parents and teachers that care about education is what sets this school apart from others, including local private and county schools.

I have two daughters that attend this school and both are in the optional program and CLUE. The academic coursework is challenging for them, which is the main reason we switched to Snowden. My 6th grader, under the direction of her 6th grade CLUE teacher, Ms. Dobbins has dramatically increased her writing skills. I have been happy w/all other classes, except Science. The middle school choir program is exceptional under the direction of Ms. Baker. As to my 3rd graders experience, she is academically challenged and also has gotten a lot out of the CLUE program, which is a pull-out program 5 hours a week for her grade level. Overall we have been very happy w/Snowden.

While my daughter excelled academically at Snowden and is clearly academically ahead of most of her classmates in her new school (in Missouri), her two years at there (KK and 1st grade) were extremely difficult ones. Too many of the teachers and staff at the school seemed to know how to relate to children only in a hard, authoritarian manner. Though she never found herself in a bit of trouble (she was frequently recognized for her citizenship), she was often afraid to go to school. Snowden is very good academically, but academic achievement alone is worthless if the desire to learn is crushed. Snowden can be better, but significant change in the ways teachers engage students is needed.

My 7th graders have been at Snowden since kindergarten. They love it. The Optional program & CLUE have encouraged them to rise to challenges, to think out of the box, and to be productive. Led by Ms. Battle, the faculty and admin staff are excellent; responsive to both students and parents. I don't think my boys could get a better education anywhere else in Memphis.

My daughter just completed her eighth year as a Snowden student. She has grown up there and I can truly say that most of our experiences have been exemplary. Like anything, if you are an involved parent, your child will receive a superior education at Snowden. My daughter is shy and she has blossomed into a great girl who is a cheerleader, in the award-winning concert choir in addition to being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society and awarded the William H. Sweet award. Snowden's programs and faculty foster an environment in which the students can not only flourish socially but also academically. -Catina Jennings

My child is in her 3rd year at Snowden and she & I loves it! The teachers are wonderful and really care about your child's education & well being. Ms. Battle and the assistant principals , teachers and the rest of the staff care about he children's safety. Snowden also is a no tolerance school. I feel my child is safe when I send her to school every day. They even have a student 'Peer Mediation' program which my child is a part of. I know that Snowden is the best school in Memphis. I am so happy that my child has the opportunity to attend this magnificent school.

Snowden is a great school! The teachers work hard with the parents to ensure a quality education for the children. The principals are some of the best in the Memphis City school system.

Snowden is the best public school in memphis. Ms. Battle and her excellent staff, are doing a magnificent job with my children. Snowden also have a wonderful pta that are helping the school meet its needs. Always remeber something great is going on at Snowden.

Snowden is a great school for me. It has great teachers and faculty. The extracurricular activities are great. Overall Snowden is a great school.
